Dr. rer. medic. Nino Chikhradze

Nino Chikhradze is a nurse scientist at the Institute for Diversity Medicine and researches how diversity influences palliative care - with a particular focus on families, carers and cultural backgrounds.

Nino Chikhradze began her professional career in Georgia by training as a nurse (1994-1997) and at the same time was involved in setting up the first outpatient nursing service in Tbilisi. She took on management roles in outpatient care and a nursing school. From 2004 to 2010, she studied nursing science at Witten/Herdecke University (Bachelor's and Master's degrees) and was awarded the DAAD prize for outstanding achievements. She completed her doctorate from 2012 to 2018 in the BMBF-funded research programme "Family Health in the Life Course" (FamiLe) on the topic of families with breast cancer. After completing her doctorate, she worked at the University of Osnabrück and from 2018 to 2024 in the Department of General Medicine at the Ruhr University Bochum. Since 2024, she has been researching and teaching at the Institute for Diversity Medicine in the field of palliative medicine.

 

Main research areas

At the Institute for Diversity Medicine, Nino Chikhradze conducts research into experiences in existential medical situations, taking into account different dimensions of diversity. The participatory approach actively involves patients, relatives and medical staff. Her work combines nursing, medical and social perspectives and takes cultural and biographical factors into account. The aim is to design care services in such a way that the needs of patients, their relatives and medical staff in existential situations are taken into account.
