acadim - The Academy for Diversity Medicine and Individualised Medicine
acadim is the first nationwide platform for research and training in diversity medicine. The project of the Institute for Diversity Medicine at RUB offers scientifically sound training for healthcare professionals, organises awareness campaigns and networks research projects on diversity-sensitive medicine.
The project
acadim is being developed at the Institute for Diversity Medicine at Ruhr University Bochum. A team of several people is currently developing the project into an independent platform. The aim is to establish the first nationwide contact point for research and training in diversity medicine.
The planned online platform is aimed at healthcare professionals, researchers as well as those affected and their relatives. It offers scientifically sound training, supports research projects on diversity-sensitive medicine and facilitates interdisciplinary dialogue. It also organises educational campaigns to promote general health awareness.
The overarching goal is to establish fairer, low-threshold and diversity-sensitive healthcare.
acadim is still going through a prototyping phase until the end of 2027. During this time, the first online and face-to-face courses will be created. At the same time, the team is developing the basis of the digital learning platform for further training and knowledge transfer in diversity medicine.
The initiators
Sebastian Paschen and Moritz Roloff initiated acadim as a non-profit start-up. Both are studying medicine and previously founded the nationwide project "Gender in Medicine" of the Federal Representation of Medical Students in Germany (bvmd).
Moritz Roloff is a qualified nurse and is studying for a doctorate in neonatology. Sebastian Paschen trained as a paramedic and is doing his doctorate in medical-pharmaceutical microbiology at the Helmholtz Institute for One Health.
During their work on the student project, they realised that the implementation of diversity-sensitive medicine must go beyond addressing medical students. The idea for acadim emerged independently of the founding of the Institute for Diversity Medicine. Since 2023, the initiators have been developing acadim together with Ruhr-Universität Bochum.
