Ina Otte wants medicine that thinks for everyone
Factors such as gender, age, physical condition or socio-economic background influence how diseases manifest themselves and which therapies are effective.
At the Institute for Diversity Medicine at Ruhr University Bochum, we investigate how diversity influences health and healthcare. Our work is conducted through interdisciplinary research projects that integrate biological, social, and cultural dimensions. In addition, we provide educational programs for students and researchers, collaborate closely with clinical partners, and are committed to advancing medical practice that is both scientifically rigorous and accessible to all.
Our institute conducts research on health care structures, palliative care, sex- and gender-sensitive oncology, and conceptual approaches to defining diversity. The research portfolio spans a broad range of projects, from clinical studies to fundamental methodological research.
Our programmes are designed for students, researchers, and all other interested audiences. They convey fundamental scientific principles and foster critical, reflective engagement with issues of diversity in medical practice.
